My Last Blog Post :)

Knowing that this semester is coming to an end and I am graduating next semester, I have to put on my big girl pants and start looking for a job of winter break. I don't even know how to start looking for a job, but knowing that my dad is going to help me, I am glad to say that i feel confident about the whole job searching process. I do have great news though, I will interning again at Denton publications for next semester. The only thing is, it's not just a regular intership reporting news about what's going on in the community. I will be a sports reporter for the paper. I am happy about this because this means that I am one step closer to my dream job. For those who are graduating, CONGRATS. For those who one more semester, WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Coping with Loss

People who have lost loved ones, either they were murdered have many ways to cope with loss. A CNN article reports that people cope differently. For Example, Last year, Baltimore's homicide rate hit a four-year high. Yet families such as Vinson's have few resources to help them heal from the trauma of a relative's sudden death. That's where Annette March-Grier steps in. Her nonprofit in Baltimore helps children and their families cope with grief. "A child's grief over the loss of a loved one is often complicated by the loss of security and identity," said March-Grier, a bereavement counselor and registered nurse. "This shift can be very dangerous if there's no support system there." "Our program provides that safe place for a child to recover." Since 2008, her organization, Roberta's House, has provided free grief support programs to more than 2,100 people -- nearly half of them children. Most Improvement

I think the title explains it all. Everyone, not only players on a sports team, but people like you and me like to improve. For this post, I am talking about players in hockey who are improving over time. For example, New York Islanders Goalie Chad Johnson. Very little has gone wrong for the Islanders in terms of their offseason moves. Jaroslav Halak has been great in net, Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy have been outstanding on defense and Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski have contributed up front VIA:http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2284817-one-player-on-every-nhl-team-who-must-improve-in-2014-15/page/20

Brodeur The New Brett Farve

If you know hockey like I do, then you know who Martin Brodeur is. For those of you who don't know who he is. He was a New Jersey Devil goaltender, and then he retired. Recently, Brodeur has come out of retirement and decided to sign a contract to become a St. Louis Blue. Brodeur is a 40-year-old veteran who is know wanting to play again for a hockey team. Let's just say we hockey fans, can call him Brett Farve.

Sport Predictions

Every sport that you watch, can report on who will make it and who will not make it to the big games at the end of the season. This year is different for the 2014-2015 NHL season. The prediction for my favorite team the New York Islanders was: The only reason to not think of the Islanders as a playoff team this year is because, well, they're the Islanders. They usually find a way to "Islanders" up situations. But this is a playoff-caliber roster. If everyone performs up their capabilities, a postseason berth should be the end result." That also includes the endorsement of Jack Capuano for coach of the year, which lacks a link as proof because no one else at B/R had him in his or her top five. And now that they are now in sole possession of first in their division. Here is a current take on the Islanders: The Islanders are a slam dunk for a playoff spot in the East. They are 10 points clear of ninth-place Florida, and just about every team below the Panthers is a stronger contender for a top-five draft pick than a top-eight spot in the standings. Capuano isn't a lock for the Jack Adams Award, with Jon Cooper of Tampa Bay and Peter Laviolette of Nashville among others in the mix, but Capuano has my vote. NHL Player Father Convicted

According to an article, New Jersey Devils player Ryane Clowe's father is under investigation for " high level" cocaine trafficking. Crowe is currently out of the Devels lineup because of a concussion isn't facing any charges himself, but his father was called to a Newfoundland and Lavrador provincial court for the charges.

Christmas Vs. Hanukkah

As you might of guessed, I am Jewish. So that means that I am the minority of people who DON'T celebrate Christmas. I'm not saying there is something wrong with people who celebrate Christmas, I just think that maybe we should advertise Hanukkah a little like we advertise Christmas. I am one of those people in my family that has an opinion about everything, and when if comes to this time a year my opinions run wild. I know that majority of people in the United States celebrates Christmas, but what about the other half. I love celebrate Hanukkah, my family and I have traditions just like the people who celebrate Christmas. I just think we should cut down on the Christmas ads and run Hanukkah ads for once.

Protestors

I get that protesting is an American right, but why do people have to do it every time something happens that they don't like, it's not like protesting is going to change it. With all these cops not getting indicting for their crimes, I have a funny feeling that these protests aren't going to be as peacefull as they are now. With what happen in Ferguson, you might wonder what if it happened in New York City. Yes, there was protest at Time Square, but that was very peaceful, nothing got burned down. The big question is though, what if they is a riot like Ferguson in New York City. I always wonder what the police would do?

Ferguson Reaction

What happened in Ferguson last night was just plain sick. I get that people are upset and angry about what the outcome of the trial was, but that doesn't mean that they had to destroy almost every business in the town because of what the outcome was. I stayed up until 1 a.m. last night watching live feed on CNN on what was happening in Ferugson, and let me tell you i was ashamed of the people who were doing it and I don't even live there. Just because a trial didn't go the way that you wanted it too, doesn't mean that you have to protest violently about it. The parents of the victim didn't want violent protest, and yet the mother of the victim was outside by the protest, screaming about what happened. Yes it is sad what happened, but the mother should have not been outside while the protest was going on, since she said it herself that they shouldn't have a violent protest. Then there was President Obama's speech about the situation in Ferguson. I thought that he did the right thing, and people are making it out that the President said that they shouldn't protest at all. That is not what he said. He said simply that if you are to protest, do it peacefully.

Hunger Games Hype

By the amount of hands... How many of you are going to see the Hunger Games: MackingJay Part One this friday? The third and last book of the Hunger Games series is said to be the best movie of the year. Which I could gladly agree because not only am I going to see it, I am seeing it the night before it comes out. Many of Hunger Games fans know of the actress who plays the fearless Katniss Everdeen? Jennifer Lawerence has become a major part of a Hollywood success because of the installments of the Hunger Games movies! Not only has she been in all three of the movies, she has played a role in the movie called " Sliving Lining Playbooks", which also stars the Bradley Cooper. Jennifer Lawernce has come a long way from not being well-known, to being in other movies like X-Men. I have to say that Jennifer Lawerence is a force to be reckon with.

Snow.

Yesterday was the first sight of snow. Yes! snow. For me snow is a good thing, I started to snowboard last semester and let me tell you, it's so much fun!!! Snowboarding for me is a way to escape school life and realty all together. The place where I go snowboarding is White face, which is near Lake Placid and where the 1980 Olympic games were held. LET IS SNOW!!!!!

Airports

Oh how I hate waiting in Airports for a flight. There are always some people who just don't know when to be quiet and peaceful. I just want to sit and wait for my flight peacefully and not be distrubed with all the noise. What I also hate about Airports is waiting in general. I get the plane has to get in and people have to get off the plane( that's another thing I hate), but I just want to get onto the plane and get flying. I also hate when people coming off the flight you are going and they just stare at you. Oh Airports, how I hate to love you.

All The Hype

I hate all I hear about today is how awesome Taylor Swift is. Taylor Swift makes her songs about how she can break up with a boy and then make a song about. But I have to say that her recent album called "1889", is actually decent. She has no songs about how a boy broke up with her or why. The reason why i think her recent album is better then the rest of her album is because yes, her songs have meaning but it doesn't talk about how crazy a boy is about breaking up and going around and talking about it. So well done Taylor Swift.

NHL Winter Classic

Every hockey fan knows that on January 1st of the New Year, there is a special game that the NHL puts on for the fans. The even is called NHL Winter Classic. The Winter Classic is about two teams facing off outside. Why do you ask that this is a special event? This is because two NHL teams get the chance to battle it out outsider in the wintery cold. This tears battle is between Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks. Will you be watching the game?

Beatles and Their Songs

This video that I posted below, is about a father singing to his dying son, after his wife died in her sleep. The song that he is singing is Blackbird by The Beatles. The Beatles have a lot of songs that can inspire a lot of people. For example, Blackbird, Let It Be and All You Need Is Love. Here is the link to the video/ article: http://www.buzzfeed.com/richardhjames/father-sings-to-his-dying-newborn-son-after-losing-his-wife?bffb

Football vs. Hockey

Everyone would think that me liking sports, includes me liking football. Well you're wrong. I dislike football as much as i dislike golf. The reason being is that Football is way to boring for my taster. I rather sit around and watch some hockey players get into a fight. Hockey for me has always been my favorite sport. I love that there isn't a time that it's filled with action. You are always entertain with hockey because the players get really intense and when they do they start to fight. Fighting in hockey is the most entertaining part about the sport. The suspense of the game is also why I love hockey over football.

Halloween Costumes

Around this time of year, younger people are trying to decide what they are going to dress up as on Halloween. For me, it's easy to say that I won't be spending any money on my costume like most people are. I have a few options to what i could be for Halloween this year. One option is a hockey player. I have the hockey jersey and I have high blue socks and boots. All i really need if I want the full effect is face paint. Face paint itself is cheap anywhere. Another option for a costume is a person in the army. I have a camoflouge shirt and blue socks. Unlike people who spend a lot of money on costumes for one night, I think it's easier just to think of something creative you can assemble with clothes that you already have.

He loves to interact with his fans. Recently Derek Jeter has launched a website, so fans could interact with their favorite professional athletes. Stay Classy Derek Jeter!

How To Get Away with Murder

The new show How To Get Away With Murder is a brand new show on ABC. It is about students in a law class learning the ways of a court room. There is a special student in that class. If you know of the Harry Potter series you know that there was a character named Dean played by Alfred Enoch. Alfred is now part of the cast of How To Get Away With Murder. You may not recognize him without his British accent, but he plays a new student at the university, while being new at the school he learns a lot about his teacher. This show is highly recommended to watch.

Book vs Movies

On friday I went to see a movie called the Maze Runner. If you don't know already, it was first a book. Now everyone knows that the book is better then the movie version. But not in the case of Hunger Games or The Maze Runner. Both films are set in the future. One is about districts at war. The other one is about boys being catptive in a maze. Both of the movies were right on point with the book. I think that the second hunger games movie was exactly what I pictured it.

Conussions

When you think of the NFL, you think of big, buff men hitting each other just for a ball. Most people don't think of the NFL and think of concussions. Concussions are a huge part of not only the NFL, but also the NHL.

Not only do athletes get concussions in football, they also get concussions playing hockey as well. Yes, in both of the sports you are wearing a helmet, but that doesn't mean that you are protected from injury.

They have been recent reports that some NFL players are have struggles from a concussion after his career is over.  Some of these players have tried to sue the league because of what symptoms they are having because of all the hits they take.

I would say that having a concussion is a pretty huge deal for someone who is in the businesses of hitting people around and getting money for it.

Here is an article for more information about a football player still recovering from a concussion over seven years later: http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/begin-again-ethan-johnsons-post-concussion-life-20140905

U2 Secert Album

Recently the famous band U2 have dropped a secret album called "Songs of Innocence". Of curse they couldn't have pulled it off with the help of the famous product in the world "Apple". While introducing the new IPhone 6 the band had made the announcement. Which in my opinion was a smart thing to do.

Knowing that millions of people will be watching the unveiling of the new IPhone  the band thought of releasing the secret album during the press conference.  At the conference Bono, the lead singer of the band wanted to make the album very personal. He also wanted to figure out a way that they can get the album to everyone, so the decided to make the album free to download.

Here is the link for more information about the release: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/u2-surprise-album-songs-of-innocence-apple-itunes-free-20140909
